Every family has a place they trace their roots back to. For us, it’s Byindoor — a small coastal town in Karnataka, known for its temple by the sea and a way of life shaped by faith, festivals, and food shared generously with anyone who walks in.
Sri Someshwaram Cafe was born from a simple wish: to carry that feeling into a big city like Bengaluru, without losing a single bit of what made it special.
From Byindoor to Marathahalli
Our story starts far from Marathahalli’s busy streets, on a stretch of Karnataka’s coastline where the day begins with temple bells and the sea breeze carries the smell of filter coffee from every home. It’s a place where recipes were never written down — they lived in the hands of grandmothers, passed to mothers, passed to daughters, learnt by watching and by love.
Generations of our family grew up around that table — breakfasts that stretched into long conversations, festivals that filled the kitchen with the aroma of a dozen dishes at once, and a quiet, unshakeable faith that guided everything, from how the day began to how the food was cooked.
When the time came to bring that legacy to Bengaluru, we didn’t want to open just another cafe. We wanted to build a home away from home — a place where someone from the coast could taste Byindoor again, and where someone who had never been could still feel, in every bite, what that town means to us.
That’s how Sri Someshwaram Cafe came to be — named for the temple that has watched over our family for generations, standing today in Marathahalli as a small tribute to where we come from, and an open invitation to everyone who walks through our doors.
